Post 124: Latest News on Hailie

Yesterday, I received this email from my sister Holly. I am keeping this blog updated with news on Hailie, and through facebook & twitter. Holly has emailed all her friends & family the links so that they may check here for the most recent update. Holly & Mom will let me know the news as they get it and then I will post it. This way Holly is not overwhelmed with trying to keep everyone updated. She does however appreciate your prayers and thoughts, so please continue to send her those - they need them right now. You can either email her or leave a comment here. Here is the latest news, from Holly:

"ER Doctor called yesterday with some results. They said that Hailie liver Enzymes are up, she is dehydrated, and her white blood cell count is down. They said they will need to rerun these test once her advanced stage of strep has cleared. She is highly contagious for two weeks. On Friday Hailie has a new apt. with a new Doctor. Then on the 30th they should take more blood to rerun the test. They said if the rest of the test come in and don’t show immediate concern then they would wait till the 30th to take more blood from her. However if they did see immediate concern then they would like to take them ASAP.

The ER doctor said that they are looking for diseases like Leukemia. She said Different types of cancers can cause all of Hailie’s symptoms and given the last couple of months of Hailie’s health history, they are concerned with Leukemia. She said it was the most common in infants and young children. So she said not to worry me but they need to check for this. Because the liver enzymes are too high they need to rerun them after she is better from the advance stage of strep, to be sure they can pinpoint what is causing this. She said that because the liver affects the blood and Leukemia is a cancer in the blood the must be absolutely sure there is not any other kind of infection, going on that could be causing this. As well as the white blood cell count test. This test show’s sign of infections and immune system is down. That is why Hailie keeps getting things like Pneumonia, strep, colds, fevers, and cough.

They said it could be as long as two weeks before we can find what is causing this. The waiting is the hardest part. Not knowing if Hailie fighting for her life or not is the worst thing a doctor can do to a parent. However we are still hopeful and still praying with all our might that we will get good results and Hailie will be cancer free. We just ask that you keep Hailie in your thoughts and prayers while we go through the next two weeks as best we can.

Thanks,

Holly"

Please continue to keep them in your prayers!

Post 123: 2nd Update on Hailie

I'm sharing with you a conversation I had via Instant Messenger with my sister about an hour ago. Please continue to keep them in your prayers. More tests are needed to be done, and some of the results are still not in. If you feel led to email her a thought or prayer please do, just remember to put "Prayers for Hailie" in the subject line. Thank you so much!

Holly Branum: Doctor called

Tonya VanWinkle: AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holly Branum: He said that not all the results are in. However Hailie's Liver enzymes are up and more blood work is requested. They are concerned with taking more blood today. Since they took so much blood the other day. They also said that her urine test is in and she is dehydrated. He said this is due to the reoccurring High Fever for longer then 3 day's at a time. He said unless the rest of the test that they are waiting on, show immediate concern. Then they will wait for the Strep to clear before rerunning the liver test. He said I would need to consult with a Primary physician and they would fax the results to them and we would go from there. So right now I am working on finding a doctor for Hailie. I am at home and I am going to get Hailie

Tonya VanWinkle: is the dr. that called the one you saw the other day? I knew that baby needed IV fluids

Holly Branum: The ER doctor is the one that called

Tonya VanWinkle: Oh, I see. Hey get some pedialite from walmart and make her drink that - it will help rehydrate her

Holly Branum: I got another number for doctor and turns out that doctor is in same building and office as the one I had been taking her too.

Tonya VanWinkle: have u talked to mom

Holly Branum: Yes. I had to ask her was Liver enzymes were. She asked a doctor there.

Tonya VanWinkle: and

Holly Branum: She said it can a number of things. The liver effects the blood. So infection to diseases.

Tonya VanWinkle: is what i thought

Holly Branum: Leukemia is cancer. This type of cancer flows through the blood. That is why it is in the entire body. The blood effects the liver

Tonya VanWinkle: right

Holly Branum: Some how all of that goes together

Tonya VanWinkle: yes i know

Holly Branum: All I can say is this isn't happening

Tonya VanWinkle: maybe it's something else, we can still hope, still pray and you better believe we will, do want me to call you?

Holly Branum: I got to go get Hailie, I will just talk to you later. I am waiting on some phone calls right now. thanks though and thanks for the prayer's, don't give up on us.
As you can tell my sister is very distraught and desperately needs your prayers. Please continue to lift them up. I feel very helpless all the way over here in England; I'm not there to hold Holly's hand, or watch Hailie so she can rest, or to even go to the Dr.'s with her. So please help me keep them uplifted in prayers. I know there is power in prayer and like my sister, all I can say is "this isn't happening!" We do not have the final word yet and until all the tests are in, that's exactly what I'm going to believe - this IS NOT HAPPENING, not to Hailie...it just can't be. Maybe that's the wrong way to believe, but right now that is what my family and I are all holding on to.

Post 122: The Branum Family

We are praying to learn the results of my niece Hailie's Leukemia test today.

My sister Holly & her husband Nick are exhausted and a nervous wreck. I will be calling later today - being 5 hours ahead of them is no fun right now - and I will update all of you with any news as I get it.

I know that this is going to be heavy on their minds this entire day and if they do not find out today then I know it's going to be frustrating.

So would you all please continue to remember them in your prayers today and if you can send Holly a message, let her know you're thinking of and praying for them, just put "Prayers for Hailie" in the subject line. I think it would help her day go better, knowing that they are surrounded in love & prayers.

Thank you so much.
