Post 124: Latest News on Hailie

Yesterday, I received this email from my sister Holly. I am keeping this blog updated with news on Hailie, and through facebook & twitter. Holly has emailed all her friends & family the links so that they may check here for the most recent update. Holly & Mom will let me know the news as they get it and then I will post it. This way Holly is not overwhelmed with trying to keep everyone updated. She does however appreciate your prayers and thoughts, so please continue to send her those - they need them right now. You can either email her or leave a comment here. Here is the latest news, from Holly:

"ER Doctor called yesterday with some results. They said that Hailie liver Enzymes are up, she is dehydrated, and her white blood cell count is down. They said they will need to rerun these test once her advanced stage of strep has cleared. She is highly contagious for two weeks. On Friday Hailie has a new apt. with a new Doctor. Then on the 30th they should take more blood to rerun the test. They said if the rest of the test come in and don’t show immediate concern then they would wait till the 30th to take more blood from her. However if they did see immediate concern then they would like to take them ASAP.

The ER doctor said that they are looking for diseases like Leukemia. She said Different types of cancers can cause all of Hailie’s symptoms and given the last couple of months of Hailie’s health history, they are concerned with Leukemia. She said it was the most common in infants and young children. So she said not to worry me but they need to check for this. Because the liver enzymes are too high they need to rerun them after she is better from the advance stage of strep, to be sure they can pinpoint what is causing this. She said that because the liver affects the blood and Leukemia is a cancer in the blood the must be absolutely sure there is not any other kind of infection, going on that could be causing this. As well as the white blood cell count test. This test show’s sign of infections and immune system is down. That is why Hailie keeps getting things like Pneumonia, strep, colds, fevers, and cough.

They said it could be as long as two weeks before we can find what is causing this. The waiting is the hardest part. Not knowing if Hailie fighting for her life or not is the worst thing a doctor can do to a parent. However we are still hopeful and still praying with all our might that we will get good results and Hailie will be cancer free. We just ask that you keep Hailie in your thoughts and prayers while we go through the next two weeks as best we can.

Thanks,

Holly"

Please continue to keep them in your prayers!
