***Also posted on Tuesday's at Tonya's***
This evening I logged on to FB to check my farm and see what was up with some my friends & family. I enjoy staying in touch with people and sometimes their "status" is absolutely hilarious. Other times it's just normal "a day in the life of" kinda stuff...and then sometimes it's FILTHY!
One of my pet peeves is the "F" word - I can't stand it. Don't enjoy hearing it. Don't like reading it. I am around many different types of people, after all my husband is in the Air Force - men do not watch their language very well sometimes, and I do live next door to a pub...so I do hear it.
However, when I log on to FB, read someones blog, or even check out a book - I do not enjoy reading that! That's not what I go there for - it's my "me-time" and when someone throws that kinda language out there - it really just feels like my "me-time" has been vomited on. Yet, I can't go around telling grown people to please watch their language on their FB page or their blog...let alone telling an author that!
Honestly, I'm not sure how many people actually enjoy reading or hearing that word. I understand if the atmosphere is appropriate for it, but I don't see "day to day life" needing that type of language - and yet there are some women out there who can put the men to shame with the way they talk!
Seriously, why do women feel the need to talk that way? Why does anybody? But girls? I mean come on - do they think it's sexy? Do they think it makes them cool? Do they think it makes us equal? I understand a bad habit - I used to let several words slip, but I've learned to control it. I hardly ever use foul language these days. It is not attractive, it is not sexy, it is not cool, and if I have to talk that way to be any body's equal - I'd rather not. I'm better than that and so are a lot of people out there.
Truthfully though, it's like when your are out in a public place don't you generally try to watch your language, unless you are at a bar or something? Don't you take into account the atmosphere of where you are? I think people should, if they don't...and I think people should take that into account on FB - unless everybody they know talks that way. People should be more considerate, especially if they are your friend.
Thankfully - my friend Amber - showed me a trick this evening after I read a horrible status that just had the "F" word all through it. You can HIDE that person's status from your news feeds. Isn't that wonderful?
So I'm going to do a 3 strikes your out kinda thing. After 3rd time I read that word on someones status - I'm going to hide it, so my "me-time" won't be vomited on!
What do you think? Am I the only person that has a problem with language these days?
