I know, I know, I didn't blog yesterday. I meant too - but time got away from me. I had most the day to myself. David went to work, the kids went to school, and I worked on the house. We are still unpacking things and getting them organized and stuff. Is a tiring process, but it's looking more and more like a home everyday.
Last night, I attempted to cook us dinner. Enchilidas to be exact, and I ran into a few minor, okay major complications. It's not that I can't cook, cause I can - or at least everyone eats it anyway. It's the fact that the stoves, ovens, microwaves are all different, and several of my utensils are MISSING!
So I'm in the kitchen, cooking. I've browned the hamburger, drained the greese & I'm fixing to mix the sauce when I run into the first complication. I have a can of tomato sauce and NO can opener! So, frustratedly I let David know - he apologizes and takes it to the Pub next door and asks for a can opener. The Landlady of the pub informs him that, that is the first time she's heard that one. Most people come in and ask for a bowl of sugar, not to have a tin opened. Everyone at the Pub got a real kick out it and David was the talk of the evening, but we added to it, when later I needed the refried beans opened as well and had to send him back. Shortly after that trip the Landlady brought me a can opener, said she had a spare. She's so nice!
Okay, so I've got all the ingredients opened now and dinner should continue without further complications, right? Wrong! There's this oven - that is impossible to figure out, but we think we've got it and proceed to let our dinner bake. We have to convert from Farenheit to Celsius, cause they do everything in celsius here. So we want it at 350 farenheit, which is somewhere around 170 celsius (according to the chart). We cook it for 15 minutes, pull it out, and all the cheese is not yet melted so I let it cook about 6 more minutes, cheese is melted, we think we're good to go. I fix our plates, we sit down to dinner, say prayer, cut into it, take a bite...and guess what? It's COLD! How in the world?! We don't know, be thankful you are not coming for a visit yet, maybe by the time you do I'll have it figured out. We can pray right?
After our cold dinner, the kids are watching a movie, we lock the doors, leave them with the walk-talkie (thanks Jimbo) and go next door for a drink. It was so relaxing. I met the Landlady and Landlord of the Pub, plus one other man - named Stuart. Stuart is a talkative fellow, old, hard to understand, and has very few teeth. However, Stuart had heard the story of David coming in, needing a tin opened. The Landlady says, "that fellow is a strange one". Stuart told me that's what he used to do whe he had teeth, open tins! He might have 3 teeth on the bottom - that's bout it. He says "bloody' alot, it was the main word I could understand from him. Anyway, it was a nice little 20 minute "date" haha and we didn't even need a sitter!
When we got back to the house, I went to try out that jacuzzi bath tub! And oh, I think I've found heaven. A nice relaxing drink with my husband, a hot whirlpool bath - full of bubbles everywhere...ah - heaven on earth! I finally have a reason to soak in a tub and it's not near as boring! Just a slight problem - I'm almost too short - I need one them pillow things you put behind your back in the tub. Know what I'm talking about? The tub is nice and deep, and oh so nice! I'm gonna need one of this forever now! haha
Then I come downstairs to the broken Armour to get some PJ's, thankfully I went back upstairs to change and then poked my head out the door to see where David was. I could hear him talking, but he wasn't in the house. It was a good thing I did too, cause he was talking to our other neighbor George and brining him inside to get him some phone numbers for who to call about getting your phone, tv, and internet all hooked up. He and his wife Steph just moved in next door, their from Germany. They are doing internships to become Vets. He used to be a Chef and I think she was a nurse. They are very nice, but everyone would have been in shock had I got caught down here in my towel! Thank God for Body towels at least!!!
After all that we went to bed and then got up and started the day again today! David went to work, kids to school, and I to empty more boxes. I have the beginnings of a scrapbook room. If you'd like to see pictures go here: http://patchworkpjs.blogspot.com/ Tomorrow I might get a little more done with it - we have to get some brackets to screw my cabinet to the wall with - to keep it from tipping over - so I can't really put much on it yet.
Once I picked the kids up from school today - James - our Landlord, came by to tell me that they gave him the wrong piece for the shower, and to meet our children. He seems so excited to have children, and a family living here. He is going to be a Grand-Dad in February and he is beyond thrilled! I think he'll make a great, Grand-Dad.
When David returned home we went to a particular base for something and had to go the long way around due to a road being closed, so when we arrived - the store was closed! Bummer. Waste of time. So we went to another base, got a gift for Ashlynn to take to a birthday party on Friday (she's been invited to her first one!) and we got some other little things and came home. We then unpacked the kids clothes (all of them), organized them and put them away, put the kids to bed, unpacked a few boxes - and made a little more room in the house and a little less cardboard!
Tomorrow - we will get a washer and dryer! Plus, the split box springs so that we can put our bed together! Amen!! Then David is going to go get a small storage unit for outside and a shelving unit for the utility room. I think the house is coming together quite nicely! I'm glad and excited too. Life is starting to get back to some sort of normalacy...and soon I will be scrapbooking! So if I seem to go missing for a few days...then I probably got my room all set up and am hiding!
We still don't have a phone, David made those calls today. There is no telling how long this will take so the best way to reach us is through email right now. Anyway, that's life in England right now! So I'm going to go to bed and start again tomorrow - maybe we will get all the boxes emptied...I know BIG maybe.
Goodnight!
