Post 164: Barn Dance

Last night there was a Barn Dance held in our little Village and so the kids and I decided to go. We had no idea what to expect or if we would even enjoy it, but we thought we should at least give it a go. At first it seemed kinda not so great, because people we're running this way and that way trying to get food all prepared.

There was a little bit of music being played and a little bit of mingling going on...but a bit after that several more people started showing up and the music started playing and people started dancing. It wasn't the "normal" dancing that I would have expected to see. It was more like in the British movies where women line up on side and men the other kinda thing.

I must admit we have some pretty good dancers in this Village. It really looked like they were having a great time. No - I did not dance - Yes - I could have, but I was happy just visiting with people. However, my daughter was not. She wanted to dance and so she ended up out there with a friend of ours, Lydia, and they all looked like they were just having a blast!

I had taken my camera up there, but later decided I wouldn't use it and Ashlynn had taken it back home along with her coat, because it was too hot believe it or not. I knew better than to send that camera home! Especially, when for the next dance she took her little brother out there with her! It was so stinkin' cute!

Lydia took a few pictures though and so I will ask her if she will email them to me. I don't know if she got any of the kids dancing together or not but I think she did at least get a few shots of people dancing and the kids doing things.

They also had food up there. I'm never going to get used to Hamburgers and Sausages! Brier wanted a HOT DOG - well that here is a "sausage" and Brier does not like that. So he had empty hot dog buns for dinner and plenty of watermelon. That boy loves his watermelon.

All the kids were playing "tag" or "it" and having such a great time running around - and boy were they ever sweaty! Brier's hair was just soaked! And Ashlynn was really wishing she had hers up - she was so hot. And of course Christien came home to spend the night with Brier - it never fails. Those two get together and you can't get them apart.

It turned out to be a pretty okay night - I hope they have one again sometime, preferably while my Husband is home. He would have been dancing - which means he'd have had me out there - but I would have enjoyed that. I miss him so much. He should be traveling home soon now - it takes a few days to get here with all the pit stops along the way - but he should be on his way soon, so please keep him in your prayers.

Anyway - if ever in England and you hear about a "Barn Dance" you should definitely check it out and don't forget your camera or leave it in the car. I love how these little Villages just through these gatherings - it's like one big family, sorta. You get to know everybody and it, it is just nice.

These are the kind of things most tourist do not experience - which is a privilege of living here. You get to see and do things that you most likely would not if you just came to "visit", because where would you go? London?

The one thing I've learned about being a military wife - is that tourist miss out on so much because they just simply go to the "hot spot" and call it great...when really they've missed out on some amazing things.

Never be afraid to get "lost"...for you never know what you might find.
