Thanksgiving in England

Well, it's quiet different, I can tell you that. Since we have our children in the British school system and the British do not have the "Thanksgiving" Holiday - our children had school. We could have kept them home, but what for? We've no family here - so what's the point really? So off to school they went, yesterday and today. David however being active duty still gets the United States Holiday's off work - so he was off yesterday and today. Yesterday, he ran some errands and tried to get somethings taken care of that he can't do usually. All the businesses and stores and everything were all open...and nothing was crowded! It just didn't feel like Thanksgiving. However, I did fix us a small turkey breast for dinner along with rice, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, cookies, cake, and cinnamon stressuel. I know alot of food for 4 people...thing is did you actually think I was going to cook today?! That's what you do, you eat Thanksgiving left overs the following day!
Today while the kids were in school we managed to get the car in the shop, find a material shop and an embroidery shop, you can read about that adventure over at PatchWork Pj's, get a few Christmas presents, and go grocery shopping. It was a busy full day - but we got alot accomplished and can relax and not worry about running out of this or that. Tomorrow we go pick up the car and we're going to go exploring a few shops. We've got to find some Plimsolls (a type of shoe) for the kids for physical education class (gym or pe). I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow and post soon. I saw several things today that made me wish I had my camera with me...David says we need to set the video camera on the dash and drive around and then send that home for family to see! haha There are just somethings you would not see if you did not live here.
Anyway, we hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and it was nice to finally get to talk to a few of you. We may only get 10 hours a month - but it's better than nothing, right? Anyway, I'll write again soon - God Bless!

It's funny but one of my guests on Thanksgiving asked me if Italian's celebrated Thanksgiving. I politely reminded her it's an American holiday so no. Too bad you couldn't connect with some other American's from the base. Happy Belated Thanksgiving and Merry SITSMAS!
