England, Day 6, 9-17-08
What a day!!!
Okay, I slept through the night and so did I!!! Isn’t that the best news ever? It’s like 9:30 p.m. and I’m actually tired…Hallelujah! We’re getting some where. We may not have a home yet, but the sleeping patterns are working themselves out.
So anyway today we looked at 5 homes total. The first 2 could work, problem not available till mid October! How crazy!! I need a home, so I can get my kids in school…that is really starting to bug me if you can’t tell.
The 3rd home was okay until we learned that the queen box springs would not fit up the stairs. The lady living there suggested we “cut” the box spring in half! Could you imagine? I don’t think so!! I am not in no way shape or form cutting any part of my bed!!! Not happening. The coolest thing though, when we drove into the Village (town) there were horses and cows grazing all over, just walking around out there in the open, no gates, no nothing! It was amazing! Really neat.
The 4th home was actually do-able as well, but it was on a very busy street and not very easy to get to. There were some concerns there.
The 5th home we were really excited about and a bit nervous. It’s a little more than our allowance – but it looked and sounded so good that we were willing to make the sacrifice…that is until we saw it. Boy, they can really doctor up some pictures, can’t they? We were quite disappointed.
After all that we went to the BX, go a pitcher for tea and some pots/pans on sale (finally found some…now if I just had a house), and we ate pizza. Then I drove back from that base to our base…about 5 miles (more than just don’t the road…haha). I think I did fine up until the exit area for our base…I hit the curb, bounced off and kept on…but boy did it not feel good! Was afraid I damaged the car…thankfully I didn’t.
Now, tomorrow morning – David and I are taking this driving education class and apparently taking the drivers test too! This could be scary!! Better pray for us!!! The kids will have to sit through it with us; don’t know what else to do with them. Thank God for game boys I guess. Ashlynn might actually enjoy learning what some of the road signs and stuff mean…but Brier that could be tricky. So by tomorrow afternoon – I might be on the grouchy side of life, hopefully not. All I can do is pray.
I don’t know if we will look at more homes tomorrow afternoon or not. I’d like to, but we just might not be up to it…so we will have to see. Oh and I don’t know if David will get to come back to the room after the class or if there is something else he has to do.
Friday, David is going to pick up our car! Yep, ours is here…amazing. Now, I don’t know if our things are here yet, course wouldn’t matter I don’t have a home to put them in yet…but our car made it! Amen uh?
We also have an appointment to look at a farm house that evening. We were going to do it today, but pushed it back due to the one home we were excited about and then disappointed by. The farm house is 30 minutes away, the road it is on, is rather narrow and curvy…so driving at dark on it could be tricky…but we did drive out there to look at the outside just to see if we even wanted to go any further with it and the outside to me looked beautiful. The yard was landscaped very nicely, rose bushes everywhere, and it was pretty secluded. There would be 1 neighbor with in walking distance basically.
So we run into the problem of do we want to drive that road and there being no kids for our kids to play with (course I don’t know if the neighbors have kids or not). David also said he saw cracks in the windows…I didn’t notice that, but the yard was so beautiful that the windows were probably the last thing I paid attention to.
The kids really liked it. It has like a tennis ball court behind it, great for playing tennis, basketball, or riding bikes. You know? So I don’t know…that one is very up in the air. We do have a few more to look at. I think there were a total of 14 on our list and we’ve seen 6 total…so surely one of them will be the one!
The Chief told David about the house next to him that is for rent, its brand new, 6 bedrooms, whirlpool, and everything…thing is it’s a 45 minute drive. We’ve not made the drive to see if it’s worth it or not, but it might just be the way things are looking.
There are a lot of housing developments, which would mean lots of neighbors, lots of kids…lots for me to get used to. Which might be what I have to do…and it’s not all about me of course. I just inherited something from my Mom that makes it a little “irritating”. I don’t want every kid in the neighborhood in my house! And I don’t want to NOT know where my kids are. I love just being able to open the back door and let them run…they might not get to do that here…the only yard I’ve even seen big enough to run in is the farm house. Oh and yards are “gardens”.
Well, I’m off to bed…gotta be in class at 8 a.m. to learn how to drive “British” style! Wish us luck, keep us in your prayers, and I’ll talk to you again soon.
