England, Day 3, 9-14-08
Were you surprised to find 2 new blogs yesterday?!!! J
Man, was last night rough! We all went to bed at 1030, thinking we would be able to sleep through the night…yeah right! It took me a little bit to fall asleep and then I know I hadn’t been asleep long, when Ashlynn entered our room and informed me that Brier just got sick! It was like 1 in the morning or so. So I get up and sure enough Brier had gotten sick, he also did not make it to the bathroom on time, so I had to clean up the bed. David got up and re-made the bed as I got the dirty linens in the wash and is that washing machine ever loud! Oh my goodness – it took forever to finally go back to sleep and most of it was due to the loudness of that thing! I was praying that it didn’t wake anyone below or above us up.
David stayed up with Brier for a while, he got sick a few other times, but managed to hit the trash can. Ashlynn woke up again at some point and couldn’t get back to sleep. Eventually she came and crawled in bed with me. So when we all woke up this morning, guess what time it was? It was like 1230!!! We slept all morning long, yes I know we had a rough night but how on earth are we ever going to get used to this time change?! Tonight we are trying to stay awake until 11 p.m. and praying that neither child gets sick. Thankfully, Brier was fine all day today – not sure what upset his stomach last night, but he is better.
We all ate some cereal and then began getting ready to go to the community center to get on the internet and post my blogs! And find out what we could find out. David took the kids down to the playground while I finished things up here, then guess what? I drove the car!!! Scary I know! J Thankfully, I only went down the street and then to the community center. It wasn’t far and I think I did okay. It’s going to take some serious getting used to. The pedals are rather close together and the gear shift is on the left (be great for left handed people). Anyway – going to have to practice I guess. What’s that verse I keep saying over and over? Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
At the community center there was a play area and we were able to get on the internet. I will probably venture down there again tomorrow, with the kids, while David is doing work stuff. Then I can post this blog, check email, and allow Ashlynn to check her email and email Olivia! J She’s so excited to contact her and tell her she is here. I don’t blame her.
After that we came back to the room here, ate some lunch, and then ventured out to look at a few other villages or towns (I’m still not sure on what they are called). We drove down this one road and man was it bumpy! You know how on the movie Cars, when Lighting McQueen has to repave the road and he does it really fast and then when they drive on it, it rattles everything loose? That’s kinda what it was like, maybe not that bad, but definitely very bumpy! They even had signs telling you so! J
We found 3 very nice looking areas. One we fell in love with! It had a beautiful Cathedral in it and you could see it from a few miles away! It was so pretty, we walked around it and took some pictures and everything, but the pictures in no way do it justice and I know – I put them on the computer and looked! It’s a bummer it would take too long to upload them at the community center or I might would try it. Thing is I only have until the battery on the computer dies and the kids get bored to finish what I want to do. I’ll be so glad when we get settled and I can communicate with ya’ll more and easier.
Oh and inside the community center it has like 4 or 5 clocks – with each time zone listed under each! It was kinda cool. I need one for England, one for Missouri, and one for Ohio! Wouldn’t that be funny? I might have to do something like that in our house! J
I cooked on the stove top for the first time this evening – not to difficult, a little strange, but not to bad. At least we had a home cooked meal, even if it was hamburger helper!
Well, I don’t know what else to tell you about today – it was fun, we had a good time traveling around. I tell you one thing, if you’ve ever drove across the Kansas Plains – they got nothing on the wide open spaces out here! It’s just beautiful, and open, and there is something about the air – it’s just so fresh. I love it. It is kinda chilly though. We’ve been wearing pants and long sleeves (yep me too!). We’ve even wore our jackets.
Oh and when it gets dark…it really gets dark! I mean midnight black!! You can’t see 2 ft in front or your nose. It’s crazy and the rumor is that in the winter it gets dark about 430 p.m. Could you imagine that? Kid’s would get home from school, be there 30 minutes or so (if we were in Ohio) and then bam it would be dark!
Well, that’s about it. I loved hearing from some of you today when I checked my email. We miss you guys! I’m going to leave you with a few more new words and go find away to keep myself and everybody awake till 11…30 minutes to go!!! Pray it works.
