Back to Business

Back to Business England, Day 10, 9-22-08

Well, this morning we went down and got the paperwork for our home started. This could take a week…but hopefully we will be moving in Oct. 1. We have to get cashiers check for the rent/deposit and that takes like 5 days or something to go through. The landlord would actually like us in before Oct.1 – which is cool, we’re thankful that the house is ready for us to move in as soon as we can. It’s also a good thing that we left our cat Lilly in David’s Dad’s loving hands – because this landlord does not like cats. We asked how he felt about dogs (we may consider getting on in the future), and he likes dogs, just not cats. So I guess God was ironing out some of the wrinkles when we decided to leave Lilly with Wilbur. The housing office on base also has to go inspect the home – make sure everything is safe and what not. And now David has gone to find out if our things are here, get some paperwork for our car that is still at the port and maybe our license, and to the bank.

I think we kinda bought a car a little while ago. Crazy uh? We went to test drive a couple from the guy we are renting a car from and he had one that fit our needs, fit our price range, and so he wrote up a bill of sale and David went to talk to the bank. I think buying a car might be the quickest thing you can do here. Funny thing is and I might have told you this already, this guy rents/sales cars but he don’t do business with the “Brit’s” – says they’d tear it up. I’m thinking okay and you’re an American who chose to live here and do business hereJ. He seems to be a nice guy, he used to be military, and he probably gets most his business from the bases anyway.

So anyway the kids and I are sitting in the room while David takes care of business and in a little while we will probably go to the community center, post this, and check emails. I sure wish we had internet in the room (I know how many times have you heard me say this!). It would just be so much easier. I could look up schools, churches, and things we need to know. I could email back and forth. I could look up some places to go visit while we are living here. The kids could play some online games when they get bored. David could watch his football games, and so on and so on, you know? It would just make things easier during this transition. I highly recommend bases get wireless internet in their Temporary Lodging facilities! J Not that they’d listen to me, but hey come on!

My patience is extremely thin and I can tell. I wanted to be moving in this weekend, was praying for sooner actually. I didn’t realize all the “time” it would take to get everything done. I know Oct. 1, isn’t that much longer…but I am so tired of this in limbo, homeless stage. Whatever you call it. It wouldn’t be so bad, but I’ve been in this since mid-July! I want a home, I want to get it all set up, I want to get the kids in school, I want to get familiar with my surroundings, I want to scrapbook…I just want a home and our things. I’m tired of limbo, plain and simple.

Anyway, maybe David will have more news when he returns…if not – then there probably won’t be much to add to this blog for today…so until then…
